The WWF has released its annual report tracking UK food retailers’ progress towards halving the environmental impact of shopping baskets by 2030. The report includes a specific section on seafood (marine) based on the data retailers have shared from their supply chains.

But this year’s report goes beyond showing progress data towards the targets and outcomes defined in the WWF Basket, and shines a spotlight on risk and resilience in food systems. It explores why resilience matters and the opportunities that proactive measures can unlock. Key highlights include:

  • Risks threatening supply chains and nature
  • Concrete examples where retailer action has already helped to build resilience
  • Actions needed across retailers, policymakers, and the wider value chain

Specifically for the marine/aquatic sector (starting on page 51), the WWF report highlights a 2030 outcome to achieve 100% sustainably sourced seafood, as well as to reduce fishmeal and oil usage to FFDR<1 by using sustainable fishmeal and fish oil replacements and increasing the use of trimmings.
