Vericatch: “Revolutionizing Fishery Management Through Software”

  • POSTED: 20/01/2026
  • AUTHOR: Anthony Floreno

Vericatch is a fishing technology company founded in 2005 producing Software as a Service (SaaS) products. We have offices in Vancouver BC, Halifax NS and St. Johns NL. We are focused on the development and support of catch reporting and seafood traceability software for all commercial fisheries. Although based in Canada, our products are used in countries around the globe from Brazil to Indonesia. We work with harvesters, processors, regulators, retailers and NGOs interested in sharing best practices and making a meaningful improvement for fishermen and the seafood sector. We believe that truly authentic data on seafood provenance has to come from the harvesters themselves.

Why GDST?
I became actively involved in
influencing and promoting GDST in 2017 as I agreed with the need for widely recognized standards in how companies efficiently share seafood origination information.

Why Digital Seafood Traceability Matters
We help o
ur clients maximise the value of their catch and represent the quality of their approach to sustainable and responsible seafood production to their supply chain and end consumers. By demonstrating increased value to harvesters and reducing risk in the supply chain for buyers, we can encourage and reward those fisheries investing in fisheries improvements.

Impact of GDST on the Business
We work with motivated stakeholders from fisheries, processors,
and industry to retailers/the service sector to bring meaning from validated catch data to inform the purchasing process, reduce brand risk and attract premium seafood sales. We work with our customers, using our experience but adapting to their needs and concerns.

Contributing to the GDST Standard
We actively promote GDST as the best standard on which to build cost effective and meaningful seafood supply chain data. We do this without undue cost and fuss, whilst recognizing the problems our clients are seeking to address.

Long-Term Goals
As a fisheries technology provider, we implement systems that improve the capture and use of actionable seafood harvest data. We have designed systems around GDST to reduce the cost of implementing different solutions for each client, and keeping costs down and interoperability high
.

Advice for Potential GDST Partners
By being a GDST partner, you too can help set the future direction of the standard
to address the issues you see and make timely and costeffective solutions. GDST is an industry standard, and it is essential that all voices are heard so GDST becomes the standard that industry needs.
