Mazzetta: “A One-Stop Sustainable Culinary Resource”

  • POSTED: 16/10/2025

Established in 1987, Mazzetta Company, LLC is one of the largest importers & producers of shrimp, mussels, lobsters, crab, and finfish, producing over 100 million lbs. of finished seafood products annually. Globally recognized as a leader in frozen seafood supply chain, Mazzetta simplifies the seafood buying process for supermarkets, foodservice, distributors, and club stores throughout North America. Mazzetta is vertically integrated through the supply chain and hands-on in the processing facilities and farms through an internal and 3rd party network.

Why GDST?
Mazzetta Company partnered with GDST in September 2024 to enhance its reputation as a leader in sustainable and responsible seafood sourcing. By ensuring full traceability, Mazzetta can mitigate risks related to IUU fishing, food safety issues, and potential supply chain disruptions. Also, adopting GDST standards can help Mazzetta stay ahead of evolving regulatory requirements related to seafood traceability and sustainability.

Why Digital Seafood Traceability Matters
As consumers become more concerned about the origin and sustainability of their seafood, Mazzetta aims to provide clear, verifiable, traceability information. They want to efficiently and effectively trace the journey of seafood from harvest to sale, ensuring that the products are legally caught and sustainably sourced.

How GDST helps to Address Challenges
Mazzetta has a diverse supply chain, and strives to support aquaculture, processors, harvesters, and wild caught fisheries working to do the right things regarding sustainability, environmental protections, workers’ rights, and food safety. Having a GDST-compatible supply chain not only offers full visibility of the supply chain, but it also ensures retail and food service partners can trust the source of their products.

Long-Term Goals
GDST develops and promotes standards for the collection, sharing, and verification of key data elements (KDEs) across seafood supply chains. This includes information on species, harvest methods, and chain of custody, which will be imperative for FSMA 204 compliance and reporting.

Advice for Potential GDST Partners
Talk to the people at GDST. They are knowledgeable, supportive, and collaborative. Beginning now and bringing your supply chain into compliance will not only benefit consumers, it will be a benefit to your business and the seafood industry as a whole.
