Sea Farms is a seafood supplier to the manufacturing and retail sectors in Europe and North America. Sea Farms is part of Seafresh Group. Sea Farms specialises in shellfish and sources a range of species, farmed and wild, from a global supply base. Sea Farms is involved in shrimp aquaculture and processing through group subsidiaries and partners. Sea Farms’ team has a strong expertise in seafood production, including fisheries, aquaculture and processing, and supply chain management, including food safety & quality, traceability, and sustainability.

Why GDST?
Sea Farms became a GDST Partner in 2022 because we believe in the value of adopting a unique traceability standard applied across the industry and we are willing to support its development.

Why Digital Seafood Traceability Matters
Digital traceability is important to harmonise the way traceability data are shared along the supply chain. Digital traceability allows us to access quickly key data points along the supply chain, verify product origin and supply chain actors, and demonstrate the integrity of our supply chain for each product shipment.

How GDST helps to Address Challenges
Challenges include the diversity of ways of sharing data among companies, including contents, formats and communication channels, the ongoing reliance on forms shared as digital copies, all of these generating difficulties for managing computerised databases. The GDST offers a standardisation of data to be collected and format for sharing them automatically between databases.

Impact of GDST on the Business
The GDST is resulting in an improved efficiency of data collection and flexibility of sharing and verifying product origin information.

Long-Term Goals
We expect a wide adoption of the GDST standard across our supply chain, and a coverage of essential data that will allow for basic, systematic due diligence on key aspects relating to products and production practices.

Advice for Potential GDST Partners
One should look at the long-term benefits for both our industry and our own individual businesses, beyond implementation costs and challenges.
