LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE

The GDST is staffed by a small team of full and part-timers, with a cadre of expert consultants, under the leadership of Interim Executive Director, Huw Thomas. Our team brings together decades of experience in building and running seafood supply chain businesses, consumer-facing retail, international standards and certification. GDST staff work with global NGOs and regionally-focused stakeholders, covering the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific.

The GDST Secretariat Team reports directly to the GDST Foundation Management Board, which is legally liable and jointly responsible for the execution of all GDST Foundation business. The Management Board reports directly to the GDST Foundation Supervisory Board, which provides the policy guidance to and governance/oversight of the Management Board.

As a partnership organisation and standard holder, the GDST also has a Partners Council and Technical Council which is made up of GDST partners.

GDST utilizes the participation of a Partners Council to assist and provide internal insight, feedback & constructive critique regarding the GDST Foundation, the GDST Standard, and the benefits & services being provided to its Partners.

The Partners Council is a group, representing the fishing/aquaculture/processing/food service, seafood technology, science, government regulatory management, NGO and digital traceability systems and software that make up the GDST Foundation’s Partnership base. Representation is sought from all these sectors to enable robust and credible scrutiny of any proposed GDST standard updates that come from either the GDST Dialogue process or from routine updates/upgrades to the GDST standard.

The Partners Council is an advisory body to the GDST Foundation, designed to provide the GDST Management Board and Supervisory Board advice, views, guidance and recommendations from a variety of informed perspectives about the operations of the GDST Foundation in pursuit of its Vision, Mission and Theory of Change.

GDST utilizes the skills of a Technical Council to assist with the development of the GDST Standards Program for the Global Seafood industry.

The TC is a group representing of fishing/aquaculture/processing/food service operations, seafood technology and science, government regulatory management, and digital traceability systems and software. Representation is sought from all these sectors to enable robust and credible scrutiny of any proposed GDST standard updates that come from either the GDST Dialogue process or from routine updates/upgrades to the GDST standard.

The function of the Technical Council is to manage technical matters relating to the GDST Standards alignment Criteria, particularly the technical relevance and appropriateness of the expansion frameworks and core standard.

The main objective of the Technical Council is to support the development and implementation of a credible and robust digital traceability alignment standards for the global seafood market that will provide assurance to the seafood supply chain, that all aligned and validated partners to the GDST standards, can provide the specified Key Data Elements (KDEs) through each critical tracking event (CTE) in a verifiable, format that will support and enhance trust in the Seafood supply chain. In delivering its work the Technical Council will support the Vision and under pin the Mission and Theory of Change of the GDST Program.
